Experience the rich and diverse history of Maryland with unlimited free admission to our museum. Visit original manuscripts such as “The Star-Spangled Banner”, General Robert E. Lee’s camp chair, Napoleon’s sister-in-law’s tiara and jewels as well as over 350,000 objects from the most significant collection of Maryland cultural artifacts in the world. Exhibits change throughout the year, so you have to visit often to see it all.

Now available online exclusively for members, the Maryland Historical Magazine is a nationally respected scholarly journal published quarterly since 1906. MdHS News provides updates on upcoming events and exhibits in a vibrant, glossy format.

Support educational programs for Maryland school children

This past year, MdHS Educational Programs served over 40,000 children from all Maryland counties. Schools near our Mount Vernon campus enjoy history workshops and museum tours on-site. MdHS reaches out to other schools around the state by providing In-Class Field Trips conducted by experienced museum teachers or Traveling Trunks full of reproduction artifacts and documents, audiovisuals, and lesson plans.
