Biographical Note

William B. Marye (1886-1979), born near Kingsville in Baltimore Co., Md., was the only son of William Nelson Marye and Elizabeth Mary Bose (Gittings) Marye. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1907 and served in the Maryland Naval Militia during World War I. As an adult based in Baltimore city, Marye was an antiquary, genealogist, historian, writer, and amateur archeologist, a recognized authority on Maryland history, especially Native American history and topography.

 

Scope and Content

Photographs made or collected by William B. Marye: formal studio portraits of Gittings family members and other individuals, and a photo of Roslin (also spelled Roslyn), the Gittings family home near Upper Falls in Baltimore Co., Md. Other subjects are outdoor views at sites in Maryland counties, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere, some made by William B. Marye and including informal portraits of Edward G. Warns.
