for Spectrum of Fashion Exhibition

Opening on October 5, 2019, Spectrum of Fashion, is the first large-scale costume exhibition mounted by the Maryland Historical Society in more than two decades. Drawing from the museums vast collection, this exhibition will feature nearly 100 garments and accessories, spanning four centuries of Maryland history. Decorative and fine arts, as well as photographic and manuscript holdings, will further illuminate the rich social history documented in  the museum’s Fashion Archives.

You now have the unique opportunity to sponsor this exhibition!

From gowns worn by the Duchess of Windsor and Elizabeth Bonaparte to livery worn by formerly enslaved individuals and uniforms from various periods, this comprehensive and visually stunning installation will capture the spectrum of history and aesthetics that the holdings within the Fashion Archives so powerfully represent. This goes beyond fashion. This exhibition provides a window into how the clothing worn by Marylanders weaves a story not only of people and our state, but a narrative about the nation.

Adoption Options:

 Single Form: $1,000

Highlighted Form: $1,500

*A Highlighted form is a garment of particular rarity and/or historical significance which will be more prominently exhibited in the gallery

By sponsoring a mannequin, donors are supporting all aspects of taking a historic garment from its storage box to the exhibition.

You have the unique opportunity to sponsor a dressed mannequin in the exhibition. Dressing a mannequin involves more than putting clothing on a person! In addition to the expense of the form, each mannequin is customized to fit the historic garments correctly and create the perfect period silhouette. In many instances, garments require hours of conservation to prepare them for the exhibition involving multiple members of museum staff, as well as a conservator. By sponsoring a mannequin, you are supporting all aspects of taking a historic garment from its storage box to the exhibition and preserving it for future generations.
