MC8807 Poe House

While Poe called Richmond home, he lived in Baltimore intermittently over the years and considered the city his birthplace. He lived here at 203 North Amity Street from 1833-1835. Poe House, 1940, Lydia Livingston Keys, MC8807, Baltimore City Life Museum Collection, MdHS.

  1. I have established the year of this photo as 1940. I have an original print of the Poe House taken immediately after it’s restoration and dated October 10, 1940. This photo clearly shows the Poe Homes housing project already attached to an unrestored 203 N. Amity Street but the housing project was completed somtime during 1940. That nails this photo as from 1940. Hope this helps. David Gaylin (Poe Baltimore)
