		<description><![CDATA[Not quite as entertaining but a whale of a tale anyway. From the 1940 DPW Annual Report: Under scavenger work for the Bureau of Harbors is this notation, “…report on Saturday, March 9th of a dead whale found in the harbor. The unofficial report on this case was that the whale was struck off of Cape Hatteras by a Standard Oil tanker, and stuck on the bow of the boat due to the forward speed and did not come free until she arrived in Baltimore and was backing to enter her dock.” Police estimated that approximately 10,000 people came to look at the whale as it was tied up to the car float bridge off Boston Street. The whale was eventually removed by the Miller Fertilizing Co. of Harford County.]]></description>
