Martha George Crowl, David Crowl's sister pictured here, made two of the quilt squares with similar motifs. Few images of early and mid-19th century quilters have been located. Like many other Baltimore album quilts, this was a cooperative effort by relatives and friends. The quilting process was a social occasion.
