Ideas and Inspiration
Album quilters displayed their considerable appliqué skills in the intricate arrangement of fruit bowl assemblages. The choice of fondu, or shaded, fabrics to create the illusion of a pear's skin provides a still life realism. This same interest in realism can be seen in Sarah Miriam Peale's Still Life of Watermelon and Grapes painted in 1820. |
