Digging Deeper


Possibly Louisa, and others who made these complicated geometric stars in their quilts, found inspiration for their designs in the kaleidoscope. This popular device made of colored glass and mirrors, patented by Scotsman Sir David Brewster in 1817, created the illusion of many-faceted geometric patterns.
