Kramer painted the ship Hope, a boy's training school docked at Fells Point, Baltimore, at the time it was established in 1846. One year later the same ship was documented on Reverend Best's quilt.

Only the front of the Old Seaman Bethel Mission on Broadway in Fells Point, Baltimore, remained after the roof support gave way in the mid-20th century. It is recognizable as the same building recorded on the quilt in 1847.
