Chintz Appliquéd Quilt, c. 1834

Francis T. Montell married Sarah Ann Bartow on September 16, 1834, shortly after he and his family moved to Baltimore from the Bahamas. It is thought that Francis's mother, Johanna, designed this quilt for her new daughter-in-law. The appliquéd chintz in a block arrangement anticipates the album quilt format.
