Gallery 3:
Baltimore Album Quilt, 1845-1848

Plain and printed cotton, wool embroidery, inking.
Acc. 1993.1, Gift of Philip Chase, Jr.

Album quilts often contained pictorial images of urban Baltimore life- ships, churches, monuments, and people- presented in quilt squares lined up in a grid. When making this quilt to celebrate David Crowl's 21st birthday, David's female relatives included a ship, probably like those seen in the Baltimore harbor, as well as an image of a log cabin.
