Use of the manuscript collections is open to qualified researchers upon the completion of this application form. Young children are not permitted in the Special Collections Reading Room.
PROTECTION OF THE COLLECTIONS
It is the responsibility of the reader to assist in the preservation of the collections by handling them with appropriate care. You are therefore requested to observe the following rules:
1. All outerwear, briefcases, folders, etc. not essential to work must be stored in lockers in the library registration area.
2. A maximum of 6 readers will be permitted in the reading room at any one time.
3. Readers may request up to 3 boxes/collections at a time. Please submit 1 request card for each collection you wish to consult. NO PHOTOCOPY ORDERS OR REQUESTS FOR RETRIEVAL WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 4 PM.
4. PENCILS ONLY. No marks may be added to or erased from any manuscript.
5. Manuscripts must be placed flat on the tables, not held in your hands or on your lap. No object may be laid on top of materials. Note paper and note cards must be used on the table top next to items. Use care in turning pages so they will not be torn or otherwise damaged.
6. Preserve the existing order and arrangement of all materials. Errors in filing or labelling should be reported to staff.
7. Readers will be asked to use microfilm or other reporductions where such editions exist.
8. Manuscripts are to be used in the reading room only. No manuscript
is to be removed for any reason without permission of the Curators.
