Mission
The Library of Maryland History ensures, for the citizens of Maryland, the preservation of and ready access to historical evidence relating to Maryland and its people.
Vision
The Library of Maryland History is not a dusty collection of ancient documents and images. It is a public trust upon which the people of Maryland depend. It enables people to inspect for themselves the record of what has happened in the past. It enables the citizens of Maryland, and people throughout the United States, to review the actions of past citizens, governments, institutions, and organizations. The Library ensures continuing access to essential evidence that documents:
- the social, economic, and political actions of individuals and institutions in Maryland;
- the historical roots of individuals and families in Maryland;
- the Maryland experience.
Broad Goals
To be effective, we at The Library of Maryland History must do the following:
- determine what evidence is essential for such documentation;
- provide an appropriate facility to house such collections;
- make it easy for users to access that evidence regardless of where they are;
- find technologies and techniques that can help improve service and hold down costs;
- help staff members continuously expand their capability to make the changes necessary to realize the vision.
- acquire adequate funding to support the program goals
