History

The Kelly family were farmers in Harmons, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where they dealt predominantly with crops rather than livestock. Rufus Kelly (fl. 1884-1923) and Egbert Kelly (fl. 1890-1923) took over the farm from their father, Hezron Kelly (fl. 1814-1883). The Hawkins family intermarried with the Kelly family, and lived in Baltimore and Harmons, Md.

Gift of E.H. Hawkins, Jr. and Janet Howkins Dowda, 1981 (76194).


Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 1 photograph, an undated, unidentified tintype portrait.

Note: The collection also contains 4 folders of printed ephemera, with the following headings: Baltimore City Government, Business and Manufacturers, Business and Manufacturers – Mutual Fire Insurance Co., and Calendars.

Note: Related materials are found in MS. 2599 which is the Kelly-Hawkins Farm Papers, 1810-1923, in the Manuscripts Department of the Maryland Historical Society.
