    About Donating Collections

The Library gladly accepts donations of materials to add to our existing collections. Since 1844, the Library has depended upon the generosity of our donors to build the substantial collection it now maintains. The quality, scope and content of the collections to this day continues to rely on the generosity of those interested in preserving the history of Maryland for use by future generations of researchers.

Due to the legal issues that now exist with donation of property and all forms of literary rights, the Library has established guidelines for donors. Although the value of some gifts may be tax deductible, the Library cannot provide you with an appraisal of your donation. Oftentimes, the type of material you donate will dictate the procedures and policies the Library must follow. Please contact the staff member listed below to discuss a potential gift or email us.

As a private, non-profit organization, the Maryland Historical Society relies on the generous financial support of its friends and members. Gifts to the Annual Fund support all aspects of operations of the Library, including cataloging collections, conservation and repair of items, mounting exhibits, producing WEB-based inventories, microfilming and binding, grants to visiting researchers, educational services, and training of volunteers, and staff. We also are happy to discuss outright gifts, deferred gifts, gifts for special projects, and gifts of stock.
