Place. There are letters from the real estate firm of Bedford & Houlton,
correspondence in regard to the transfer of the property from the estate of
Dr. John Hanson Thomas to Francis M. Jencks, bill of sale, tax receipts,
insurance policies, and terms of the agreement between F. M. Jencks and
Douglas H. Thomas, trustee of the estate.

repairs, farm work, including threshing, shoeing of horses, repair of bicy-
cles); detailed record of personal expenses, including food, church collec-

JOHNSON ACCOUNT BOOK, MS.499
Entry book kept by Joshua Johnson (1742-1802), from 1771-1775, showing
complete details of cargoes shipped to Maryland from London, names of
ships and masters. Cargoes include clothing, spices, kitchenware, yard
goods, leather, and many other finished products from England and her
possessions. Tobacco seems to have been the major return cargo. In rear of
volume, accounts of Wallace, Davidson & Johnson, showing shipping
invoices for Maryland tobacco, 1772-1774. Includes accounts with various
Maryland planters, including Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Thomas
Ringgold.

Letterbook of Johnson, Johonnat & Company, Commission merchants of
Baltimore and Boston. Many of the letters are between the pafterS in dle
firm (Henry Johnson, Francis and George Johonnat) and deal with family
and business affairs, and economic conditions in Baltimore. The rest of the
correspondence is directed to business connections of the firm, among whom
are Hewes & Anthony of Philadelphia; Ludlow & Goold of New York; Noah
Parker of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; and John Bromfield, Isaac Codman,
Stephen Higginson, Daniel Sargent, John Boies, Simeon Mayo, and Robert
Cooper, all apparently of Boston.

Grove on the borders of Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties. Contain
full inventories of servants, slaves, stock, grain, tools, and furniture; daily
entries on winds, weather, stock, work, and general subjects. From 1779
there are monthly tables of vessels passing Walnut Grove on their way to
Baltimore, charted by type.

JOPPA COURT HOUSE PETITIONS, MS. 1707
Group of manuscript petitions to Gov. Horatio Sharpe against the
removal of the Baltimore County Courthouse from Joppa and a printed
advertisement giving notice that the petition will be circulated.
Published in the Proceedings and Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland
