Collection of letters of the Allen Bowie Davis family of Montgomery
County, Maryland, 1855-1904. Letters written to and by Allen Bowie Davis,
his wife, Hester, daughters, Mary, Esther, and Rebecca, and son, W. Wilkins
Davis. In addition there are 19 tributes to Allen Bowie Davis after his
death in 1889, and 41 items addressed to Rebecca Davis from friends, 1862-
1904, a few from the Episcopal Church in Baltimore. 46 items from son, W.
Wilkins Davis, to his family while a pupil at St. James's College (now St.
James's School), 1858-1861, give a picture of the school. The letters from
Allen Bowie Davis to his children contain references to the Civil War, etc.

Minute book of the Democratic City Convention Committee, Committee
of Law and Order, October, 1856 (formed to restore order in Baltimore
after election riots, maintain suffrage rights for all qualified voters, etc.).
Shows action taken to procure military protection at time of presidential
election in 1856 when the police force was inadequate-resolutions signed
by prominent Baltimoreans who were members of the committee.

of claims to land in Maryland (chiefly Anne Arundel County) vs. Lords
Baltimore, c. 1746-1775, including mention of Roger Steward, John Sim-
mons, John Hall, John Eastland, Robert Eden, Isaac Lackland, et al., vs.
Calvert (28 items). Other papers deal with legal actions, etc., mainly with
Daniel Dulany, Jr. as defendant, land surveys, accounts, deeds, 1751-1809.
Other parties are Walter Dulany, Daniel Dulany, Sr., John Tayloe. Isaac
Bringel, Mlle. Delavincendiere, Bennott, Buchanan, Ridgely, Raymer,
