by Connectioneers, Inc.Research Fees & Services
The Library of the Maryland Historical Society offers research by mail. Please note that this is a simple search service and analysis of data cannot be provided. The research will encompass only our books, microfilm holdings, genealogy resources, and card files on maritime, and historic sructures. It will not include research of our manuscripts or prints and photographs which must be accessed through contact with the curators of those collections. No assurance of a successful search can be made; please allow 6-8 weeks for a reply to your inquiry.
If you wish, we can provide you with a LIST OF PROFESSIONAL RESEARCHERS who you can contact to conduct a lengthier search on your behalf.
BASIC SERVICE
For Members: The library staff will conduct a one-hour search of our historical and genealogical files and book collection in response to a single, clearly-stated question about ONE person, place, thing, or historical event posed on FORM A (click here to see form), at the rate of $12 per hour. For each additional question, please enclose another FORM A and another check or money order for $12. Please be sure to note your membership number on the form you submit.
For Non-Members: The library staff will conduct a one-hour search of our historical and genealogical files and book collection in response to a single, clearly-stated question about ONE person, place, thing, or historical event, posed on FORM A (click here to see form), for a charge of $16 per hour. For an additional question, please enclose another FORM A and another check or money order for $16.
EXTENDED SERVICE

If your questions cannot be answered within the alloted hour, you will be advised and asked to send sufficient funds. Please be sure to note your membership number on the form you submit.
For Non-Members: The library staff will conduct a one-hour search throughout our entire collection in response to questions posed on FORM B (click here to see form), at a rate of $30 per hour. If your questions cannot be answered within the alloted hour you will be advised and asked to send sufficient funds for such research.
PLEASE NOTE: No matter which service you select, please be sure to cite the sources you have already checked to avoid duplication of effort.
