The MdHS's education department provides critical links between the institution, its collections, and the public. As the single largest provider of history educational programs in the state, the Maryland Historical Society reaches over 72,000 Marylanders and out-of-state visitors annually through on-site and outreach offerings. This is accomplished through a year-round schedule of dynamic and innovative programs that explore diverse aspects of Maryland, the Chesapeake region, and the nation. Younger audiences benefit from craft and history workshops on the weekends, school programs, lively family festivals, activities for Girl Scouts from across the state, and performances by living history actors. Adults, too, can take part in a wide variety of in-depth lectures and symposia, gallery talks, and workshops on subjects as diverse as photograph conservation, Civil War history, the decorative arts, and how to conduct genealogical research.
