Make a Time Capsule

Time capsules show current daily life to people in the future. Everyday objects are placed in a sealed container and stored in a special place. On a certain date, maybe ten, twenty, or even one hundred years later, the capsules are opened. Time capsules show us what was important to people at the time the capsule was created.

1. Think of some objects that represent your life and the life in your community.

2. Make a list of objects you would like to include in your time capsule (make sure they are not too big or expensive to use). Assemble the objects.

3. On a piece of paper, write descriptions of what each object is and for what it is used. Attach a description to each object.

4. Find a sturdy box or other container that will hold your materials.

5. Place your objects in the container. Plan a date to open it in the future. Seal your box and label it with the date, the day of the week, your name, and the date it should be opened.

6. Store your capsule in a safe and special place.
