Charles F. Mayer (1798-1864) was the son of Christian Mayer and brother to Lewis Mayer and Brantz Mayer (1809-1879). A lawyer, he married Susan Pratt in 1819 and then married Eliza C. Blackwell (ca. 1803-) in 1827. Eliza Blackwell, daughter of Capt. Francis Blackwell (1766-1839) and Deborah (Robinson) Blackwell of Ireland, was raised by the family of Dr. James Smith of Philadelphia due to the early death of her mother. According to the 1850 census Charles F. Mayer, age 52, had living in his household Eliza C. (46), Francis B. (23), Charles F. (18), Lewis (17), Alfred M. (13), and Eliza (6). Francis Blackwell Mayer (ca. 1827-1899) was an artist. Charles F. Mayer (ca. 1832-1888) was an engineer. Lewis Mayer (ca. 1853-1886) was a lawyer. Alfred Marshall Mayer (ca. 1837-1897) was an eminent scientist. Eliza Mayer (1844-1920) married Rev. Robert Boyd van Kleeck. They had a daughter Mary (1883-1972) who was born in Glenham, New York in the vicinity of Newburgh. Melinda K. Friend Ass't Manuscripts Librarian 19 July 1990
