John McCormick was a Baltimore illustrator, who worked for more than 33 years on The Baltimore News-Post and American, retiring in 1959. Born in Baltimore, the son of Andrew McCormick, he attended Garys Prep School, then studied fine art at the Maryland Institute, the New York School of Fine Arts (Parsons), and in Paris, France. He first worked for the News-Post in 1913, but joined the Navy in 1917, serving on the battleship South Carolina. In addition to cartoon style drawings for newspaper publications, he also worked in the court system, and created composite drawings of crime suspects for the Police Department.
Gift of John McCormick, 1987 (002007).
