Picture of the Elephant Hotel at Margate City, one of the oldest landmarks, Atlantic City, NJ. On the back "This would be a nice place for you Toots. Gay Street.  This elephant is six stories high and is listed on the National Park of Historical Landmarks.  Constructed in 1881 at the request of James V. Lafferty, engineer and inventor.

In this letter to Kate from Clara Weilbacher, Clara speaks about her upcoming wedding in June and her new destination from New York to California.  Clara has two daughters, Minnie and Emmie.  Minnie is going on 17 and next year will be off to college.  She is trying to persuade Emmie to visit Baltimore with her and Mr. Wittenbrock (her fiance) for a week or two to visit family and friends before her departure to California.  She also tells Kate the many parties and balls she attends.

In this letter from Caroline she speaks about Papa dying and ashes being laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetary.  The death must have come to much of the family's surprise because the sons who live in different states are unable to make the funeral without it costing too much.  Caroline is not even able to have a minister to conduct the funeral because they are either out of town or on vacation.  She also states families that she could possibly invite to the funeral service.  She's writing from 29 88th street in New York.
