nia, 1889-96, and from various relatives and friends about the Gist
genealogy; notes on the Abbott, Adlum, Berwick, Besson, Cameron, Foutz,
Gist, Jones, Rattenbuy, Saughier, and Walls families; inventory of the
estate of Nellie Cameron Jones Foster; "Gleanings of the Gist family
History . . . " by Margaret Adlum Green Uones) Gist. The majority of the
above letters also reflect Gist's work as a civil engineer in railroad construc-
tion in West Virginia, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and as Assistant City Engineer
in Evansville, Indiana and describe the harshness of camp life and
difficulties with the crews. The correspondence with relatives show the
migration of various Gists to Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, and
Florida.
