Photographs
If
you have photographs of buildings, public events, or people in Maryland,
please consider donating them to the Maryland Historical Society.
We accept all types of photographic images, including negatives,
slides, and prints. We are particularly interested in photographs
that can be identified as to time, place, buildings or people, or
other subject matter. Unless the photograph is of unusual
interest, we normally will not accept 20th-century photographs unless
there is at least a basic subject identification, even if it's somewhat
general (i.e., "farm building in Frederick County in the early
20th century").
Due
to the fact that we receive many requests for copies of the images
in our collections, we ask that if you own the copyright on the
images, you grant to us the right to reproduce, display, publish,
and sell copies of the image.
Please
consider donating your Maryland-related photographs to the Maryland
Historical Society.
If there are photographs you would like to donate, please contact David Angerhofer at (410) 685-3750, ext. 378, or special_collections@mdhs.org.
If we are not the right repository for your collection, we will try to help you find an appropriate institution.
It
would be great if you would donate some money along with your photographs.
A donation of $25 per 100 photos/negatives you give us would help
us purchase archival photograph enclosures and boxes for them, ensuring
they survive for years to come. Any amount you could give
us would be a great help.
