Got a secret? Wanna keep it? Join us as we learn about espionage throughout Maryland’s history. We’ll talk about George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring during the Revolution, Harriett Tubman’s espionage activities during the Civil War, and more. We’ll also try out different codes and methods of sending secret messages, and follow clues to claim a prize.

Francis Scott Key Lecture Series What is the future of historic sites? Why are historic sites important today? Drawing examples from Drayton Hall in South Carolina and other National Trust sites through the northeast, including Cliveden in Philadelphia, Montpelier in Vermont, and President Lincoln’s Cottage in Washington DC, George McDaniel will discuss how historic sites across the country are working to make their communities a better place through education, economic development, and preservation.

A FREE Members Only Online Program. Join Edward C. Papenfuse, Maryland State Archivist, retired, for an engaging look at one of Baltimore’s earliest maps and the bankrupt London surveyor who brought order to the boomtown chaos of a growing city. How did Poppleton’s use of military triangulation, rather than the compass and chain, produce an extraordinarily precise map, one that remains accurate today. Registered members will receive step by step instructions on how to participate in this live virtual experience via email.

Join Mark Letzer, MdHS President and CEO, on a tour of our galleries to learn about the great Marylanders of the past, including Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte, Enoch Pratt, and William Henry Rinehart. Following lunch, visitors will drive to Green Mount Cemetery to visit the graves of these and many other famous Marylanders. A walking tour along the historic paths under fall foliage will highlight the people, legends, and lore surrounding one of Baltimore's historic cemeteries.

FREE Event! What’s Your Perspective: Community Panel Discussion. Questions and unique perspectives are the heart of the concept of Structure and Perspective. Throughout the exhibit, visitors are asked to share their perspectives on the specific themes explored in the artwork by David Brewster and curated objects from the Museum. As individuals, our perspectives and approaches to these themes are different, so how do we connect, support, and share ideas as a community of Marylanders? In this interactive community discussion, the panel and audience will dialogue during a guided exploration of the diverse perspectives through which people approach these questions about Maryland’s social landscape.

Families will visit some of the many Native American tribes present in Prehistoric, Colonial and present-day Maryland. Join us for a night of photography, music and drinks at the Windup Space for a satellite exhibition of dozens of Joseph Kohl photographs from the Maryland Historical Society's exhibit Unscripted Moments: The Life & Photography of Joseph Kohl, showing throughout the month of November. The photographs exhibited will not be on view at MdHS, and can only be viewed at the Windup Space at 12 North Avenue. This is a free event. War has been an unfortunate constant throughout human history, and Maryland’s history is no different. We will be looking at Maryland’s role in many of America’s wars and the contributions and sacrifices made. Come learn more about the significant contributions of Maryland Patriots in the Revolutionary War, how the first blood of the Civil War was spilled on Baltimore streets, and the curious case of a German submarine in Baltimore’s harbor during World War I.
