The Historic Girl: History Mystery

 Friday*, October 20th, 10:00 am-1:30 pm 

Help the Maryland Historical Society solve a “History Mystery” while completing a Girl Scout Badge! Scouts will learn to use their powers of observation while looking at historical documents, communicate in secret spy code, and use clues to figure out some puzzles of the past. This program will cover all of the requirements for the Junior “Detective” badge.

Cost:  $15 per scout, FREE for Parents

*Special “Schools Closed” weekday program: Schools closed in Anne Arundel, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carrol, Harford, and Howard Counties

The Historic Girl: Maryland Day Celebration 

Sunday March 25th 1:00 pm-4:00 pm 

Why do we celebrate Maryland Day on March 25th? Explore the story of Maryland from when it was founded through modern day! Learn about our state symbols, our relationship with the national anthem, and lead a special Maryland Day ceremony and parade. This program will cover all of the steps for the “Maryland Heritage” patch and the Brownies “Celebrating Community” badge.

Cost: $15 per scout, FREE for Parents

 

The Historic Girl: Imperial Legacy

 Saturday April 28th 10:00 am-1:30 pm 

Who are some of the important women who “ruled” Maryland? Learn about the legacies of Queen Henrietta Maria, Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte, and the myth versus reality of Pocahontas. This program will cover all of the requirements for the Junior “Playing the Past” badge.

Cost:  $15 per scout, FREE for Parents


Girl Scouts on the Go! 
  

2 hours programs. Can accommodate 10-60 girls. $6.00/ girl. Must schedule at least 2 weeks in advance.  

In Olden Times: Then & Now  

For Daisies and Brownies 

Look at children’s lives and experiences long ago!  Using artifacts and costumes we will explore work activities, play time and family life, compare a day at school in the late 1800s with your classroom today. Play games, read a diary from a schoolgirl in the 1890’s and see objects from a schoolroom. Maryland Historical Society patch available in the gift shop for $2.00. 

  

Colonial Maryland  

For Juniors 

Explore what life was like in Maryland during the colonial period. See the objects that the colonists may have brought with them and pack like you are a colonist traveling to the New World. Understand the importance of tobacco, shipbuilding, trade, and enslaved labor to the economy at the time. Maryland Historical Society patch available in the gift shop for $2.00.

For Cadettes 

Trace the strides that African Americans have made in achieving equal rights and treatment from the colonial period to the present. Maryland Historical Society patch available in the gift shop for $2.00.
