Adult Tours

The Maryland Historical Society offers interactive tours that are designed for an adult audience. Guided tours of the Maryland Historical Society are available by appointment Wednesday through Saturday between 10 am and 4 pm for groups of 10 or more.

 

Tours at the Historical Society are led by trained museum educators, and introduce participants to original historical evidence from MdHS’s collections!

Maryland In Conflict

When we think of “Maryland in Conflict,” we immediately think of the valiant defense of Fort McHenry that spawned our National Anthem or the devastating carnage during the Battle of Antietam.  But “conflict” extends far beyond military engagements into our everyday lives.  Explore the diverse museum and library holdings of the Maryland Historical Society as we delve into Maryland’s important roles not only in wartime but also in some of America’s most defining social conflicts such as the Civil Rights Movement, labor activism, and struggles over religion.

Art & Music in Maryland

What is “American Art”?  Join us as we explore the highlights of our collections and celebrate Maryland’s rich contributions to American cultural arts!  Marylanders, both famous and unknown, have played an integral part in defining the essence of American art. From the renowned works of Charles Wilson Peale to the iconic sound of Eubie Blake, visitors will travel back in time as we glimpse the United States through the artist’s eye.

America in Miniature

Maryland is often referred to by promoters as “America in Miniature,” but how can such a tiny state truly reflect the major themes of American History?  Come with us as we investigate the vast collections of the Maryland Historical Society to answer this question.  Along the way we will discover many stories of Maryland’s people and places spanning from the struggles of the Maryland colony’s founders to the social issues of the mid-20th century.

Woman of Two Words Exhibition Tour
