"This quilt is signed on the back in ink, 'T.L. Darnall, made in 1846.'
The predominance of arborescent chintz and the large center medallion of
the "boxed" Star of Bethlehem indicate an earlier date for the quilt than
that assigned by the family. Only an experienced quilter could have
cut and appliquéd the complicated, intricately designed center medallion."
